교수와 학생은 소통하고 환자의 프라이버시는 지켜주는, 스페인 CEU 산파블로 의과대학 강의동 디자인

Odontology, physiotherapy, psychology, and nutrition: the architectural program is defined to meet the needs of these four different faculties of the CEU San Pablo University – a building which occupies a two-level 2780m2 space located on Calle Almansa 66, in Madrid’s Tetuán district.
The first floor is dedicated to conventional classrooms and student changing rooms. But on the ground floor, the main protagonists are the odontology clinic’s curved clinical boxes. These boxes are arranged in clusters of three or four, allowing professors to tutor, or demonstrate, the treatment of several patients at the same time. The design of these 45, organically curved, clinical boxes allows for communication between student and teachers without compromising the privacy of the patients.
스페인 마드리드에 위치한 CEU 산파블로 대학에 치과, 물리치료과, 심리학과, 영양학과, 4개 학부가 공용으로 활용하는 강의동이 신축됐다. 2층 높이 총면적은 2,780m² 규모로, 1층에는 치과 실습과 임상 치료가 가능한 굴곡진 형태의 진료 부스가, 2층에는 일반적인 형태의 강의실과 학생들의 탈의실이 배치된다.
프로젝트에서 가장 큰 공을 들인 부분은 유기적으로 연결된 45개의 굴곡진 진료 부스다. 서너개의 부스가 모여 하나의 클러스터를 이루는데, 이러한 구조 덕분에 한명의 교수가 여러 명의 학생을 동시에 지도할 수 있다. 치료받는 환자의 프라이버시는 침해하지 않으면서도 학생과 교수는 원활하게 의사소통할 수 있는, 두 가지 장점을 모두 지닌 구조다.

진료 부스의 칸막이벽은 1.2m 높이로 벽돌을 쌓고 에폭시 합성수지로 마감해 만들어졌다. 각 부스의 바닥은 서로 부드럽게 연결되며 전체적으로 통일된 공간 하나를 형성한다. 구불구불한 폴리카보네이트 판이 마치 커튼처럼 칸막이벽에 고정되어 공간성과 프라이버시를 모두 확보했다. 흰색 인조대리석으로 만들어진 실험실 의자들은 칸막이벽 너머에 놓여 기술적인 환경을 만든다. 천장 조명을 받는 실험실 의자와 진료 부스 내 의자는 서로 연결되어 기존의 역할 이외의 또 다른 기능을 수행하게 된다.
유기적 형태의 치과 진료실과는 다르게 물리치료과와 영양학과, 심리학과 진료실의 칸막이벽은 굴곡지지 않고 각져 있다. 칸막이벽은 합성수지로 마감되었으며, 폴리카보네이트 및 플라스틱판은 이형강으로 고정됐다.
방음 효과를 높이기 위한 목모 음향 벽과 색색의 슬라럼 방음벽은 대기실과 물리치료실 천장에 매달려 있다.

Constructed from 1.2m-high brick parapet walls, stuccoed and finished in epoxy resin to create a curved continuation of the floor, these ontological boxes form a unified spatial whole. Corrugated cellular polycarbonate panels, 1.8m high, are screwed to these curved walls ensuring privacy without closing the space. The lab benches are clad in white Corian forming a technical epidermis over the epoxy parapet walls. Lighting above these counters and incorporated in each dental chair creates another functional order within the primary organization.
In contrast to the organic forms of the odontology boxes, the cubicles for physiotherapy, nutritionists and psychologists have polygonal shapes, replacing the format of curved, resin-coated walls and polycarbonate screens with steel profiles and the same plastic panels.

세심하게 설계된 천장은 이 건축물을 더욱 돋보이게 한다. 치과 진료실 천장에 달린 목모 음향 벽은 진료실 배치와 동일하게 일직선으로 배열돼 있어 냉난방 장치를 포함한 각종 건물 설비를 편리하게 운영할 수 있다. 복도 천장에 수직으로 부착된 음향 벽은 공간에 대한 이해도를 높여 복잡한 진료실들을 잘 찾아갈 수 있도록 돕는다.
프로젝트에 사용된 다양한 색과 간판은 내부 공간의 복잡한 디자인과 긴밀한 관계를 갖고 있다. 매일같이 공간을 사용하는 학생과 교수는 물론, 병원을 찾는 환자와 직원 모두를 고려한 것이다. 한정된 예산 안에서 엄선된 건축 자재와 색, 다양한 형태와 조화로운 간판은 이 건물을 전형적인 의과 대학과 다르게 따뜻하고 발랄한 분위기를 가진 강의동으로 만든다.

Wood wool acoustic panels have been used to improve sound absorption, as well as color-coded Slalom acoustic baffles, hung from the ceiling in the waiting room and physiotherapy cabins.
The program and circulation are emphasized by the precise layout of the ceiling. Over the dentistry boxes, the wood wool panels are horizontal, following the same geometry as the cabins below, facilitating HVAC and other building systems that run on the ceiling. Over the pathways, the same panels are hung vertically, creating a dynamic whole which facilitates an understanding of the space and how to navigate through it.
The colors used, and the design of the signage, seek to communicate the interior layout and its complex distribution, both for daily users (students and teachers) and occasional visitors (patients and their companions). Selected materials, colors, shapes and incorporated signage create a warm and youthful atmosphere within a strict budget, while avoiding the typical aesthetic of a medical clinic.
